North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue issued the order Monday for all flags to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Wednesday, September 12. The order is for the State Capital, State Highway Patrol offices, and state facilities in Nash County. Other communities may also take part as a sign of respect.

The flags will be flown at half-staff in tribute to North Carolina Trooper B. Gene DeMuth of Rocky Mount.

Trooper DeMuth, 42, was killed Saturday in the line of duty. He was setting out stop sticks to halt a chase when the suspect's car hit and killed him. Trooper DeMuth was a 12 year veteran of the State Highway Patrol.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, from 6-9 p.m. at Englewood Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. The funeral is scheduled at the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
