Obama for America campaign releases grassroots numbers

Posted: Updated:

One day after the Democratic National Convention wrapped up in Charlotte, Obama for America released its report on the grassroots effort working to re-elect President Obama.

The organization says the DNC helped it build across the state of North Carolina. Volunteers completed more than 54,000 hours of volunteer work just in North Carolina. Nationwide, the "OFA" organized more than 6,200 convention watch parties.

The following bullet points are from Obama for America:

  • More than 14,500 volunteers took part in the 9-3-1 program. They were asked to fill at least three volunteer shifts of three hours each, for a total of nine hours.
  • During their shifts, volunteers registered unregistered voters, persuaded undecided voters and motivated supporters to vote via early vote and on Election Day. 75 percent of those volunteers were new to the organization.
  • Obama for America believes it has already collected more voter registration forms in North Carolina this year than in 2008.

The coming weekend, September 8 and 9, is a weekend of action. The campaign hopes to use the enthusiasm left from the DNC to boost activity this weekend. The organization says it already has nearly 7,000 events scheduled with supporters from Florida to Nevada.
