CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
Several of North Carolina's top Democrats took the stage on the final night of the Democratic National Convention.
Greetings came from Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton, Sen. Kay Hagan and former Charlotte Mayor Harvey Gantt.
Gantt honor former Charlotte Mayor Pro Tempore Susan Burgess who played a big role in getting the DNC to come to Charlotte. Burgess passed away after in 2010 after battling cancer.
"Susan spent three decades in public service on the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board and the city council," Gantt said.
For Gantt it wasn't about what he brought the delegates, but rather what they give him.
"I have had more people walk up to me and say you have a wonderful city, but the people here are wonderful," he said. "Everybody is so friendly, and that makes a former mayor feels good."
Not just encouragement for a former mayor, but also congressman Mel Watt who is a Mecklenburg County native. He senses a shifting tide in the presidential campaign.
"Right now I'm beginning to feel a vibe picking up. I've managed campaign so I know there is a pace," Watt told WBTV.
For the Queen City, and North Carolina, it is a win-win.
Frank Emory chairs the Charlotte Chamber, and he agrees.
"We swung for the fences and we knocked it out of the park," Emory said.
