Sewer Repair Happening Now in Downtown Morganton

MORGANTON, NC (WBTV) -

As of Thursday, September 6 2012, East Meeting Street from Chestnut Street to East Union Street in downtown Morganton will be closed overnight. The closure was put in place to repair a broken sewer line.

Water Resources Director Don Danford states that workers began an investigation on the sewer failure last night, but haven't been able to locate the problem in the line as of yet.

"We've sent in cameras at several locations, but all we are seeing is water, dirt and mud," Danford said. "We're going to have to dig up the line, find the break and replace the line."

Danford said crew members will work diligently. Crews will then plan to put down temporary pavement on the roadways.

If you need to get around this incident, you can take South Chestnut Street to Huffman Street, then get on Union Street. Also, another great alternate for drivers is
to take Huffman Street to Valdese Street and then get back on East Union Street.
