Six Charlotte-area emerging professionals were recognized Wednesday night for their deep commitment to social activism. They were honored at a fundraiser and award reception held by Young and Powerful for Obama.

Charlotte's Young and Powerful Rising Star Honorees are Okeatta Brown, Wells Fargo supplier diversity manager; Keith Cradle, Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office inmate program manager; Janine Davis, founder and executive director of Girl Talk Foundation; Rod Garvin, founder and executive producer for 1865 Media Company; Jarvis Holliday, freelance writer, editor and blogger; Jon Strayhorn, owner and lead photographer for Media Arts Collective.

Young and Powerful for Obama is a group of leaders age 21-40 with the stated mission to continue the progress and success that was started in 2007, and assure Obama's reelection in 2012 through a series of fundraising events.
