Fort Mill School District has canceled classes for all 13 schools for Wednesday, September 5.
Overnight, the school district initially called for a two-hour delay for all schools saying five of its schools were without water because of a water line leak. It was not specified which schools did not have running water.
At 6 a.m., the school district made the decision to cancel classes because the leak could not be fixed in time for the start of classes. Here is the message that was recorded when calling the Fort Mill School District main line:
"Unfortunately the busted water main was unable to be repaired in time for us to operate schools safely. Therefore, all schools are canceled for Wednesday, September 5. Following district policy we will be using the first available make up day as noted on the district academic calendar which is Friday, October 26. We will notify all families in the event of future delays or school cancellations due to this situation. So if you receive no messages Wednesday evening please plan to have your students at school for normal operating hours on Thursday, September 6. Thank you for your understanding."
WBTV called the Fort Mill Police Department who confirmed the water main break is in the Springfield Subdivision off of Old Nation Road near Nation Ford High School.
