CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
With all the excitement and buzz on the streets surrounding the Democratic National Convention there is bound to be a party pooper.
And no, I'm not talking about the loud protestors.
For the past two days, I've been rained on at least seven times while trying to cover the DNC in center city.
I don't mean a little drizzle or a light shower, I'm talking torrential downpours.
For me, I just moan and complain as I get soaked from head toe.
Imagine some of my colleagues disdain who are carrying 30 plus pounds of electronic equipment.
As a reporter, seeing thousands of people run for cover can be entertaining to watch but I also watch potential story ideas go down the drain as well.
When a shower hit, suddenly whatever you're holding becomes a makeshift umbrella.
Plastic bags with souvenirs become hair protectors.
Teenagers appear out of nowhere selling umbrellas for $7. Who knew this was a hot business in the center city?
But as quickly as the rains come they leave and the sun break through and the city immediately comes back to life.
Only now we are dealing with perhaps an ever bigger party pooper – humidity, or "Man it's muggy out" as we call it in the South.
Oh well, that's what air-conditioning is for, right?
