The convention opened Tuesday at 5 p.m. with millions around the country watching Charlotte.
Former Speaker of the House and now House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi spoke with WBTV just moments after being on stage.
"Charlotte deserves a great deal of credit for living up to every ideal of southern hospitality," she said.
Pelosi was just one of several big names and close Obama allies we found walking the halls. Some came from clear across the United States.
"We've got forest fires all over Montana and we could use some rain. It sure has been raining here and I should buy some and send to Montana," said Governor Brian Schweitzer.
WBTV caught up with former Bush Press Secretary Ari Fleischer.
"There's too much NASCAR in Charlotte for me to ever feel it's enemy territory. I get to charlotte a bunch of times and do business down here and it's always good to be here," he said.
Out of everyone inside the arena, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn may know President Obama the longest amount of time. The two met in 1996.
"He's a down to earth guy. He's a man of the people. and we have to have someone who understands paycheck to paycheck," Quinn said.
