Reporter Notebook: Uptown full of celeb sightings

Let me preface this with the fact that I am an entertainment junkie.  Don't judge me because US Weekly comes to my door every week.

Let me also say that WBTV News producer Jeffrey Keene and I were in Uptown Charlotte doing an important story today.  We were talking about cell phone connectivity during the DNC and whether all of the added bandwidth, etc. would hold out as everyone tried to get on the phone and online at the same time.

Still, I am not going to lie to you.  For a good hour today my head was on a swivel as I went celeb spotting.  I became very envious of Brigida Mack's DNC "beat" because she gets to do this for real.

I wouldn't say we were in Uptown for more than 10 minutes when I saw the first familiar face outside the Ritz.  It was one of those moments where you can't get the iPhone to switch into camera mode fast enough.  I was also a little blinded by handsomeness because it was Adrien Grenier.  You know, Vincent Chase from "Entourage".  Yeah, the picture didn't really come out like I wanted it to.  Unless you're looking for a long-distance profile shot.  Then I have you covered.

A few minutes later, outside the CNN Grill, actor/comedian John Leguizamo walked by.  I am the queen of taking pictures of people from the side as they walk by me.  He did give the people who recognized him a little wave and a smile though.

CNN Anchor Soledad O'Brien passed by a few minutes later and she was just lovely.  We news people still get geeked out by other news people we respect and she was so kind to agree to a photo together.  Then she told me she loves Charlotte though the humidity is killing her hair.

Finally this celeb gossip queen got a chance to sit down with the gossip king.  Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton was at a Pringles/Rock the Vote event at Mez in the Epicentre.  We chatted about why he's in Charlotte - what he thinks of the city - why it's important for someone like him to encourage people to vote - and yes, we even talked a little celeb gossip.

Brigida will show you some of that interview during her reports at 11pm and I'll share more this weekend on WBTV News Saturday Morning.
