CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - If Mother Nature moves in to Charlotte later in the week, the group planning the President's acceptance speech says it could be moved indoors.
According to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, if severe weather moves into the area on Thursday night, when President Barack Obama is expected to accept the Democratic nomination, there is a back-up plan.
"The convention proceedings at Bank of America Stadium will take place rain or shine, similar to other events at the stadium. Of course, safety is the top priority, and if we have to activate a contingency plan due to severe weather, we will make a determination with enough time for arrangements to be made," said Democratic National Convention Committee spokeswoman Joanne Peters
The group says the speech could be moved from the Bank of America stadium in Charlotte to the Time Warner Cable arena. That's where the first two nights of the Democratic National Convention are being held.
More than 70,000 people are credentialed and expected to be at the stadium on Thursday night. Time Warner Cable's maximum seating is 20,200 people, according to its website.
DNCC officials say people who have the community credentials need to register them online, so they can receive updates about any changes that happen. Click here to register your credential.
