Ridership up on Charlotte public transit

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

More people are riding Charlotte buses and trains this afternoon, as people attend events in Center City ahead of the Democratic National Convention.

Transit officials are urging customers to carpool to the train and bus lots to allow as much parking capacity as possible.

Service is on schedule, and there remains capacity for additional riders, officials told WBTV.

The LYNX Blue Line will be stopping at Stonewall Street Station, operating with two-car trains all day. Service will continue until 1:00 am Tuesday morning.

No delays have been reported at the airport, however travelers are asked to contact the airline for the most up-to-date information.

Mecklenburg EMS treated several people for heat-related illness. All were considered minor and not life threatening.

In order to stay protected from the heat, avoid strenuous activity in the mid-day sun, stay out of the heat for long periods of time, and drink plenty of fluids.
