DNC: New street closures and CarolinaFest kick off event today

Good morning! It's Monday, September 3. Hope you get to enjoy the Labor Day holiday today. We have a lot to cover this morning. Of course there are a lot of headlines from Democratic National Convention. Keep us on from 4:30 a.m. To 7:00 a.m. for the most reliable live, team coverage all morning.

Already there have been 18 street closures because of the DNC and starting at 5 a.m. today get ready for another round! Navigating through uptown will be a bear this morning. WBTV's Cam Man Ron Lee and traffic reporter Tonya Rivens are teaming up to tell you where the new road closures will be. If you're thinking 'no problem, I'll use city transit to get around,' there are changes in store happening today too. We'll have the most up-to-date, reliable info.

CarolinaFest 2012 is hours away from starting and they have quite an entertaining lineup for families to enjoy today. It all gets started with the Charlotte Labor Day parade. This is the kick off event to start the DNC. We're live with what else you and your family can take part in when activities start at 10 a.m.

On this Labor Day holiday we're reminded of the people who are having a difficult time finding work. It's especially hard for veterans. WBTV's Astrid Martinez has a live report on one veteran's story and she found out about local services that are in place in Charlotte to help the people who served our country find work.

By the way, if you're on Twitter or Facebook follow us! On Twitter you can find us @WBTV_news and all our DNC-related tweets will have #WBTVDNC. Like us on Facebook at wbtv.com/facebook. I'm about to send some updates there right now!

We'll see you on the air in a few minutes.

Christine
