Dozens of churches from the Charlotte region canceled Sunday evening services and held a big non-denominational worship and prayer at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.
Organizers say bus loads of people from about 80-to-90 churches participated in Charlotte 714. The service is named after the scripture found in 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Organizers say with all eyes on Charlotte for the Democratic National Convention, they wanted people to "see Charlotte as a praying city not a city of protest".
They say it wasn't a political event directed at either party. They just wanted to pray for the nation.
