Thousands begin their descent into Charlotte

Around 30,000 visitors are starting to make their way into Charlotte this weekend for the Democratic National Convention, with many passing through Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

As of early Saturday afternoon, airport officials say there have been no delays in arrivals or departures.

Between 350-400 taxis are on site to accommodate the travelers, more than double the daily use.

Alternate traffic routes have been placed in and around the airport, with approximately 25 electronic message boards to help drivers along the way.

The Cell Phone Lot, where motorists can park and wait to pick up travelers, has been temporarily moved to 5535 Wilkinson Boulevard (across from Business Valet). The lot is accessible from Harlee Avenue through Monday, September 3.

Aviation Department, airlines and official Democratic National Convention volunteers will be located inside the terminal to assist travelers.
