Airport extends changes through Monday, delegates arrive in Charlotte

Posted: Updated:

Passengers making their way through Charlotte Douglas International Airport Friday afternoon told WBTV they noticed an increase in traffic due to Labor Day travelers and people coming in for the Democratic National Convention.

Airport officials say Friday has been a normal day and there isn't really a substantial change in the amount of traffic coming through.

Airport Director Jerry Orr says there will be no more people traveling through the airport, as no flights have been added. Officials say the concern, is the ground transportation, and making sure everyone gets out of the airport in a timely manner.

No problems have been reported, and passengers who talked to WBTV were in good spirits.

"Most of us have never been here, so we're excited to be here and we heard about your southern hospitality and we're looking forward to seeing it," said New Mexico State Representative Joni Gutierrez.

There will be some changes for the Labor Day holiday weekend. Commercial ground transportation will only be on the lower level. Personal vehicles will drop off and pick up passengers upstairs.

The cell phone lot is moving to 5535 Wilkinson Boulevard. These changes are only for Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2. Airport officials announced Saturday they are extending those changes through Monday. All is now expected to return to normal starting Tuesday, September 4th.
