CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Typically this time of year is slow in the flower business. Birthday arrangements and thank you flowers are the order of most days.
With the Democratic National Convention days away, however, things have changed.
Several florists around town are gearing up for a very busy time.
"Normally half the staff is on vacation week so its nice that we have the injection of energy and revenue at the end of the summer," said Joel Houston, owner of Flowers Plus in Uptown Charlotte.
They will provide centerpieces and arrangements for several parties and luncheons in Charlotte this week.
The same is true at Elizabeth House Flowers on South Boulevard in Charlotte.
"We're doing the Google event. We're doing a couple of private things including one at the Ritz Carlton," said David Wynn, shop owner.
The one issue several florists mentioned that has them slightly concerned is whether they'll be able to deliver what they need to deliver, when it has to be delivered. The security perimeter is going to be slow to cross. They do say the city has kept them well-informed.
"It is fluid. Things are going to change and we have to adapt with it," said Mike Cordesius with Tropical Images.
In fact, the staff at Flowers Plus will move their operations to another site to ensure they can reach their customers.
It will just be the best way for us to ensure we can meet our customers needs," Houston added.
