Convention impacts local food charity

Posted: Updated:

The Democratic National Convention is impacting one of Charlotte's charities.

Friendship Trays needs volunteer drivers for Friday, August 31. The organization says its corps of drivers is spread thin, partly from DNC preps, and it could use some reinforcements.

Monday is Labor Day and Friendship Trays will not deliver any meals. Volunteers are need for the Friendship Gardens exhibit Uptown at CarolinaFest. The organization needs volunteers to work the exhibit and share the mission of Friendship Gardens with event attendees...that's Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, September 3-5. Friendship Trays needs substitute drivers to volunteer those days.

Friendship Trays has announced there will be no meal deliveries on Thursday, September 6 either due to road closures. Volunteers will make an extra delivery Tuesday or Wednesday to make up for the missed meal. While there won't be any deliveries on Thursday, volunteers will be in the kitchen preparing for Friday.

If you can help, call Martha Cochrane at (704) 333-9229, or email mcochrane@friendshiptrays.org

Friendship Trays delivers food to people in the Charlotte area who need a helping hand. The organization says most of its recipients are elderly, infirm and living on a fixed income. The average recipient is also to pay about a third of their own meal cost, so Friendship Trays steps in to bridge the gap.

You can find the organization on its Facebook page here or the website here.
