Isaac downgraded but rescues underway this afternoon

Good afternoon, Maureen O'Boyle here in the WBTV newsroom as we work on several stories for your news tonight at 5:00.

Isaac has been downgraded to a tropical storm but the system is still dumping a lot of rain on an already soaked Gulf coast.  Rescues are happening right now across that region, we'll have video of families brought to safety.

And we're tracking our own issues in the First Alert Weather Center.  Isaac's influence on our weather means we've got flood advisories for some local counties.  Eric Thomas will have the best look at what you can expect and keep a watch on Isaac's path.

We're live from Tampa on the floor of the Republican National Convention as another busy day unfolds for the North Carolina delegation.

Reaction is still coming in to a national story by a Democratic lobbyist who wrote an article claiming Charlotte was a poor choice to host the DNC because there isn't much going on 'culturally' in the Queen City. We'll talk to the people running some of our famous cultural centers to get their reaction!

I hope you'll join Paul Cameron, Eric Thomas and me along with the rest of the WBTV news team for your best local coverage tonight at 5:00.
