ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) -
On Monday afternoon, officers with the York County Sheriff's Office found 1,571 marijuana plants valued between $3 to $4 million dollars.
The plants were discovered during an eradication flight in Western York County.
The marijuana fields were located along a creek bank off River Road near the town on Smyrna and the York and Cherokee County line. The plants ranged from one foot to eight feet in height.
Officers with the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Task Force, York County Sheriff's Office, Department of Natural Resources, South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and Cherokee County Sheriff's Office assisted in the eradication.
The plants were cut down and will be destroyed.
An investigation is pending on locating and arresting possible suspects involved in growing the marijuana.
On behalf of York County Sheriff Bruce Bryant and the Governing board of the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Task Force, the YCMDTF will continue to eradicate and prosecute any individuals in York County found growing or manufacturing marijuana. Those who are caught growing or manufacturing marijuana will be prosecuted to the fullest.
