CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte Mecklenburg school (CMS) system's new superintendent Dr. Heath Morrison wants to keep the community informed when it comes to how the district handled school closures.
Last year the district closed several schools to help balance the budget and to offer students a better education. Many in the community voiced their disagreement over CMS' decision. They thought it was wrong and showed discrimination. Most of the school closures were in minority communities.
Now CMS staff is working on a report that will show if money was saved and if students received a better education at their new school.
Morrison believes creating a report is the right thing to do and he adds the district will do reports for the community every time CMS does big changes.
The report should be ready by the end of September.
