Panthers hoping to improve Special Teams

Charlotte, NC - (WBTV)

The Carolina Panthers returned to the practice field Tuesday, in order to begin preparations for Thursday's game in Pittsburgh.

Since most of the starters don't play in the final preseason game; guys like Steve Smith, Greg Olsen, Jordan Gross and Ryan Kalil were given the day off.

Back to work for the first time since being listed as the starters were kicker Justin Medlock, and rookie punter Brad Nortman.

A pair of young and strong legs will be the new faces on special teams this year.

4th round draft pick Joe Adams seems to be the leading candidate for punt returns. The team says that Adams will be returning some kicks against the Steelers as well.

You really don't hear much about special teams unless something goes wrong .. but since the Panthers were near the bottom of the league in that area last season.. it's been a concern they won't let slip under the radar.
