Plea deal for deadly street racer

Hello again everyone, it's Paul Cameron in the WBTV newsroom. 

Tonight at 5:00PM—a plea deal for the woman who hit another car while street racing, causing the deaths of three people.  Carleen Atkinson was sentenced to more than 3 years of prison for killing a mother, her daughter and another teenager, then driving away without calling for help.  The mother of the boy who was killed had harsh criticism for Atkinson.  Our court reporter Sharon Smith will share it with us at 5:00. 

As the Republican Convention does a perfunctory roll call tonight to officially install Mitt Romney as the party nominee, a top Democrat is bashing Charlotte as host city of the DNC, saying it was a mistake to bring the convention here. 

While politics dominates the news, many eyes are on New Orleans and the lower gulf coast where Hurricane Isaac is close to landfall—and it comes exactly 7 years after Katrina almost wiped the Big Easy away.  Our thoughts and prayers are everyone in the storm's path and Eric Thomas will have the latest tracking information.
