Two students killed on the first day of school

Hello again friends, it's Paul Cameron in the WBTV newsroom.

Tonight at 11:00PM—minutes after the bell on the first day of school, troopers say two teens were speeding, lost control, crashed into a bridge, and then careened into a SUV.  The 16-year old driver and his 15-year old passenger were both killed.  Tonight, classmates gathered at West Rowan High to paint the school rock in remembrance of their friends.

Will it be déjà vu for the Big Easy?  Seven years ago Katrina put New Orleans under water.  Fears are Isaac will intensify, then slow down once over land.  This time, the Army Corps of Engineers has buttressed the old levees with new walls designed to prevent the devastation and loss of life we saw in 2005.  Let's all hope the plan works.

The Carolina Panthers give the boot to their kicker.  Veteran Olindo Mare was one of several "name players" who lost their jobs to younger men.  And that's the numbers game of the NFL.  If you can do the same thing and command less money, you're hired.
