Just before 3:00 p.m. Monday, Highway Patrol was called out to Highway 29, north of Spencer, in Rowan County. The call referenced a vehicle off the side of Finishing Road.
Troopers told WBTV Eddie Monroe, 67, was dead when they arrived. He was found under the vehicle. Troopers said they believe something prompted Monroe to get out of his truck, and he was run over by it. They do not suspect foul play or any kind of suspicious means.
Monroe's son Justin, and fellow firefighters Vic Isler, died in the Salisbury Millwork Fire of 2008. WBTV's David Whisenant got to know the family during that time of mourning, and today, he shared some of his thoughts. You can read David's reporter notebook here.
