Train derails after hitting car in Statesville

STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) - A man is in critical condition after his car was hit by a train in Statesville Friday morning.

The car ran through a stop sign at the intersection on Business Park Drive and Salisbury Highway where there is a railroad crossing, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Video from Sky 3 shows the Norfolk Southern train is off the tracks sitting upright. 8 cars have derailed.

The victim in the car had to be cut out of the car by firefighters. He was flown to Carolinas Medical Center.
