A man is killed during an early morning motorcycle wreck

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A man is killed while speeding on a motorcycle early Friday morning. Police say alcohol played a factor.

The calls for help came just after 1am from the Q-Stix pool hall on Rozzelles Ferry Road in west Charlotte.

Medics rushed to the scene as witnesses described what happened.

The victim, identified as Donnie Medley was found laying unconscious next to a sedan in the parking lot.

The motorcycle he was on was in a heap under the vehicle.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Medley and his fiancee were up from Charleston South Carolina visiting friends.

At one point during the evening, Medley borrowed someone's high powered 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle, and began racing up and down the roadway, according to police.

He lost control, put the bike on it's side, and slide about forty yards before hitting the parked Chrysler sedan.

Medley was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said he had been drinking, and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
