Two women shot during armed robbery at their home

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Two women were rushed to the hospital after police said they were shot in the chest during an armed robbery at their home.

Police responded to a report of a multiple shooting on Alma Court just off Statesville Avenue in north Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police got the call around 4 a.m. and rushed to the scene to find two women who ha been shot.

Investigators said the victims heard a knock on the door. When they went to answer it, a man standing on the porch told them he had just been in an accident, and asked to come inside.

The women refused.

At that point, the CMPD said the man tried to shove his way into the house.

The victims resisted, and tried to fight back.

According to officers, the man pulled out a gun, and shot the two woman, both in the chest. He then fled the scene.

Police said the shooting is drug related and not random.

At last word, the victims were being rushed into surgery at Carolinas Medical Center. Medic described their conditions as life-threatening.

The gunman took off after the shooting. Police combed through the neighborhood, but as of this point, no one was in custody.

If you have any information on where this man is, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
