CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – A man is arrested after he allegedly broke into police officer's personal cars while they were patrolling city streets.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are used to fighting crime, but not when it's in their own backyards.
Officers at the CMPD substation off of North Sharon Amity Road, also known by the designation "Charlie 3", came out to find at least three of their personal cars were broken into, and items stolen Sunday night.
As the investigation progressed, police said they got a break, when the suspect came to them.
Officers arrested Thomas Sellers after they said he was caught scaling the same police fence in an apparent attempt to repeat the crime early Wednesday morning.
Officials believe Sellers broke into another vehicle a short distance away earlier in the night.
Sellers is being charged with trespassing. More charges may be filed at a later time.
