CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
A toddler was taken to the hospital after nearly drowning in a bath tub, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
The incident happened just before 5:30 p.m. Monday on Firelight Lane in east Charlotte.
The mother of the one-year-old boy was giving him a bath, police say. She went to the kitchen, and when she came back, the boy had slipped under the water.
A CMPD spokesperson later said that the baby had been taken to Carolinas Medical Center, and was alive.
The child's mother, 20-year-old Jessenia Gissel Matute, is charged with child neglect.
The Department of Social Services is investigating.
