Police investigating after woman found dead in home

The Lincolnton Police Department is conducting a death investigation after a woman was found dead in her home, authorities tell WBTV.

Officers at the scene say they found 38-year-old Selina Sheppard inside her home on Mauney Drive around 1 p.m. Monday by a friend of one of her children.

"It's scary because there's kids around too. I got kids of my own," said neighbor Jamal Lowery.

The boy went in the back door of the home and found Shepherd. Police say it was well known in the community that she kept her back door unlocked.

Police tell WBTV that although there are no apparent signs of a struggle, they sent the body to N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem for an autopsy.

A homicide was ruled out Tuesday and the cause of death is still unknown pending toxicology reports.

Sheppard was arrested in January along with her husband for domestic violence. Police have yet to name a suspect in her death.
