100 students get free haircuts at Charlotte barber shop

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Students of all ages lined up at Nu-U Barber Shop Monday for free back-to-school haircuts.
The barber shop, located on N. Tryon St. in Charlotte, has offered free haircuts and braids for the last three years.  This year, the business pledged to give away at least 100 haircuts.
The event has plenty of things for kids to do while they wait to get their new hair styles. This year's event featured two moon bounces, face painting, and free food.  Adults were also given the opportunity to register to vote.
Nu-U partners with the radio station My 92.7 to give families a treat and help kids start the new school year with plenty of self esteem.
"This is a huge event and I love it," said volunteer Lynette Smith. "I love to see people giving back to the community. I love to see the children are going to have fresh haircuts for school and school supplies, and you know everybody's getting excited. We're all ready for the kids to go back to school."
