Gastonia Police are working a wreck at I-85 northbound and Bessemer City Road.
Investigators confirmed Friday evening, the driver of a Mitsubishi Eclipse tried to merge onto I-85 from Bessemer City Road and lost control.
Police said the car skidded on the wet road after 5 p.m. Friday and into the tractor-trailer, causing the truck to wreck and get wedged underneath the overpass bridge.
The tractor-trailer was carrying beer, and spilled the beer onto the roadway. Police said fuel from the big rig also spilled.
One lane of the highway is open as officers continue to investigate. Investigators said no one was hurt, but they are concerned about the spilled diesel fuel.
