A statue at the intersection of Providence Road and Queens Road in the Myers Park area of Charlotte was knocked over late Thursday evening.
The statue of Hugh McManaway was reportedly knocked over by a hit and run driver.
Police arrested Cory Richard Pierce, 34, of Matthews, Friday and charged him with driving while license revoked and hit and run causing property damage, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
Pierce requested a public defender in court Monday and has a court date for October 17th.
The statue immortalizes McManaway, who endeared himself to folks in the area. He would stand in the median in his iconic yellow rain coat and direct traffic.
