Troopers in Union County say a Waxhaw man was killed and another man injured Tuesday morning in a vehicle crash that shut down the roadway.
The incident was reported around 6:30 a.m. at Providence Road South and New Town Road in Waxhaw, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Anthony Derkachev, 20, died after his car crossed the centerline striking a white work van. Troopers told WBTV that Derkachev was working overnight at a local grocery store.
Witnesses said several cars missed Derkachev when he swerved over the center line, but the van could not avoid the collision.
The man driving the work van was released from the hospital after he was treated for injuries.
