Police in Gaston County release picture of possible cemetery vandals

BESSEMER CITY, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Gaston County released a surveillance picture Wednesday morning. They believe two people shown in the picture could be responsible for the vandalism of a Bessemer City cemetery.

Investigators say someone knocked over granite and marble tombstones at the Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery at 800 N. 13th Street Friday night. Police said 42 graves were desecrated and the vandalism caused more than $6200 in damage.

Similar vandalism took place on July 18th. Seven graves were damaged and graffiti was found on the tombstones then.

Individuals providing information leading to an arrest may be eligible to receive a cash reward up to $1000.
