CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The Democratic National Convention will go on...rain or shine, according to DNC Committee officials.

During early September of last year, Charlotte received heavy downpours and storms.  With thunderstorms popping up in the Queen City almost every day recently, WBTV asked the DNCC about back-up plans for major outdoor activities.

On the last night of the Convention, President Barack Obama will speak at Bank of America Stadium, which is an open-air venue.  Friday, the DNCC said the event will happen rain or shine.

DNCC spokeswoman Joanne Peters issued the following statement:

The convention proceedings at Bank of America Stadium will take place rain or shine, similar to other events at the stadium.  We have an advisory team in place that is working to develop a contingency plan in the event of severe weather, which will be announced closer to the convention if the need arises.  Our plans will take into account the stadium's existing weather plans that are used for Panthers games and other events.  Individuals with community credentials will register their credentials, so we will be able to communicate any plans with them.
