Two people hurt during hit and run accident

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Two people were transported to the hospital early Friday morning after being hit by another driver.

At 1:30 in the morning, the streets of uptown Charlotte were filled with the sounds of partygoers enjoying the night air.

What also was heard was the sounds of screeching tires, and a gut-wrenching collision.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said an SUV traveling down Trade Street, was hit by another car that blew a red light.

The SUV careened off the roadway, and crashed into a power pole.

Firefighters arrived within minutes of the collision, and had to pull two people out of the passenger door according to police.

Both were banged up, but reports are they should be okay.

The driver who caused all of this continued going, and was last seen traveling down Church Street.

The CMPD is currently searching for that driver.
