Too much rain too fast causes flooding, rescues

Good morning! Hope you're staying dry on this Wednesday, August 8. This is Christine Nelson with your first look at the stories we're covering on WBTV News This Morning. We're on from 4:30-7:00 a.m.

What a night. A good 2-4 inches of rain hammered the Charlotte area so fast, the result was major flooding and multiple people who got stuck had to be rescued. I took a look at the video we're going to air. It's pretty dramatic to see how streets were covered and watch emergency crews go into action. We'll show you all the weather developments from overnight. Plus our Cam Man Ron Lee will give us a live report on how the streets are looking as you're heading out.

More details are coming out this morning about Sikh temple shooter Wade Michael Page. We tell you the hate group his former boss says Page wanted to join, even though the gunman had no history of violence.

Remember we told you about the California woman who was busted trying to steal a baby from the hospital? We learned the lie police say she got herself into that may have led to her alleged crime. South Africa??! It's a weather event that is going down in the record books.

Don't forget we have weather and traffic updates every 10 minutes too! These are going to be very important today to help get you out the door.

See you on the air!
