CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The investigation continues after a house catches fire forcing the people inside out into the street early Wednesday morning.
It's something the Charlotte Fire Department hounds on all the time: make sure you have working smoke detectors in your house.
That advice may have saved a couple from being hurt in an overnight fire.
The two residents who live at the home along Lake Forest Road just off Albemarle Road say they were awaken by the blaring sounds of the smoke alarm.
They were able to get out, along with their three dogs just in time, as flames overtook the front bedroom.
It took fire crews about ten minutes to knock the fire down, but the damage was already done. The Red Cross was called in to try to help the couple find a place to live for a while.
The good news is no one, including any of the animals was hurt.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and no dollar amount on the repairs that will need to be done was given.
