Panthers close to becoming a top-ranked offense

Charlotte, NC - (WBTV)

Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith missed most of Tuesday's practice in Spartanburg, because of some bruising in his knee. Coach Rivera says he's fine though, and Smith should be back practicing tomorrow.

The cats other big weapon this season is Greg Olsen. While he will be carrying the weight at tight end .. don't count out Gary Barnidge who's returning from ankle injury.

Olsen also expects new fullback Mike Tolbert to be involved in more schemes because of his speed and blocking ability.

The Panthers are continuing to build this team into a top offense, and Olsen says consistency plays a huge role in that.

"It starts with the quarterback, the top offenses in the league are going to have consistent play, and top-level play, at the quarterback position. That's us now, and that's huge. The more years we can get under our belt, the same system, same quarterback play, same pieces around Cam .. I think those are the offenses that develop into being special."
