Charlotte parks make changes for DNC

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - If you have big plans in Mecklenburg County parks the week of the DNC, you might want to think twice.

Mecklenburg County Parks and Rec. Superintendent Greg Clemmer says the agency started planning for the DNC about a year ago. One of the changes park patrons will face is not being able to reserve park shelters or picnic areas during the first week in September.

"We are preparing for anything," said Clemmer of the thousands of extra people he expects will visit Mecklenburg Parks during the convention. Also on hand, will be thousands of protestors.

Frazier, Independence, Freedom, Pearl/Baxter, Latta, Marshall, Alexander, Greenville, 4th Ward, and Bryant Parks will all see the limitations in reservations during the week. Also limited will be practice fields and athletic space reservations.

A protest group has filed an application with the City of Charlotte and says it may host as many 4,000 protestors at Frazier Park near Uptown Charlotte.
