Update On Train Derailment

Good morning on this Tuesday, 7 August 2012, from the WBTV News morning team...John Carter reporting to you this morning.

Crews have been working through the night to clear the tracks in Cramerton, where 19 train cars derailed.  We've just spoken to railway officials...and we'll let you know whether there are any train delays due to the derailment.

Opening statements are scheduled to begin this morning in the case of the woman charged with running down two nurses in front of an adult daycare center in Charlotte in 2010...one of the nurses died, the other is now in a wheelchair.

Jared Lee Loughner is expected to plead guilty today...to the January 2011 shooting that killed six people and wounded Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords last year in Tucson, Arizona.

We're getting new details this morning about the deadly shootings at the Sikh temple in Wisconsin...we'll also tell you about a special vigil in Gastonia in honor of the six people who died during the shooting.

We had a lot of rain in the area overnight...Al Conklin tells us whether to expect more today in your First Alert Weather forecast.

And a flood of pictures are coming from Mars this morning from NASA's Curiosity land rover...and that in turn has led to a tasty treat!  We'll tell you what that's all about.

    A vehicle crashed into a business in Gaston County Sunday afternoon. The incident happened around noon in the 800 block of N. 14th Street. Gastonia Fire Department assisted the Bessemer City Fire Department on the scene.

    Huntersville Fire Department responded to a fatal car crash on I-77 N near Exit 25 north around 4:30 a.m. Officials say three cars were involved in a crash that left one person confirmed dead on the scene. A second person was transported for potentially life threatening injuries.
