CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
Heavy rains hit Charlotte and the surrounding areas Tuesday for the second night in a row.
At 7:45 the National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for Mecklenburg County until 1:30 a.m.
WBTV Chief Meteorologist Eric Thomas says that the region had already seen two to three inches by 8 p.m., and that urban flooding is likely.
Just before 8:30 p.m., CFD confirmed that two water rescues were underway at the intersections of Freedom Drive and Camp Greene Street, and Wilkinson Boulevard and Ashley Road.
WBTV was there as firefighters assisted one motorists trapped in high water at Camp Greene Street, and as two people were rescued from a vehicle on Wilkinson Boulevard.
There were no injuries at either incident.
"I came down the street (Camp Greene) and the ground looked pretty level," said Renaldo Clyburn.
Charlotte firefighters rescued Clyburn just minutes after the water began to rise.
"There could be undercurrents. You can't see everything under there, there could be a hole, so we go out and make sure the ground is safe underneath," said Firefighter John Bradley.
The rain comes just one day after a cluster of storms from the west met with a separate cluster from the south over the region Monday evening.
This converged system remained over the area into the night, creating scattered downpours and Flood Warnings.
