Cornelius town officials nix consolidation

Hello again everyone, it's Paul Cameron in the WBTV newsroom. 

Tonight at 5:00PM—is consolidation of government for the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County a good thing?  That's what local leaders are debating tonight.  Despite a cost saving selling point, one of the outlying towns in Mecklenburg, Cornelius, is dead set against the idea since it would dilute their local control.  Our business expert Melissa Hankins reports on the consolidation issue. 

We've just learned new details about the alleged shooter who killed six people at a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin.  Wade Michael Page was a member of a white supremacist group with ties to North Carolina.  But authorities are also looking for another man who showed up after the shooting to take pictures. 

It's been a Romney summer as far as campaign finance.  The presumptive GOP nominee raised a reported $101 million in July, which is his second straight month of plus $100 million.  President Barak Obama's camp reports his campaign raised $75 million during the same time period.
