Officials in Lancaster County will apply for two grants to help cover the costs of firefighting services. Thursday night, the fire commission got approval to apply for the grants.
The first grant is for $1 million and would allow the county to hire ten daytime firefighters. That would fill the gap when many volunteers are working their regular jobs and aren't available.
The second grant is for $1.2 million. It would cover incentives to volunteers, like gas reimbursements. The Fire Marshal says volunteers often put a lot of their own money out-of-pocket, and the county depends on them.
