Fire Departments from Weddington and other parts of Union and Mecklenburg counties tried to stop a home from burning to the ground after a fire broke out in the garage.
Firefighters were called to the home on Ennis Road shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday.
The fire had spread to the home's attack when firefighters arrived on scene.
They entered the home and attempted to stop the flames but could not. The fire was then fought defensively, firefighters said.
Everyone inside the home was safely evacuated and no one else was hurt.
Fire investigators said some of the things belonging to the people who lived there could be salvaged but the home is probably a total loss.
