WATAUGA COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -
Deputy William Mast, Junior was shot and killed while answering a 911 call in Watauga County on Thursday, July 26.
Another deputy shot and killed the man who opened fire on Mast.
Now there is a scholarship fund set up in honor of the fallen deputy, and fundraisers to raise money for that fund.
Chetola Resort and the Blowing Rock Chamber have already raised $1,800 at Symphony on the Lake at Chetola Resort the night after Mast was killed.
On August 8, there will be a silent auction to raise money for the scholarship fund. The auction will be held at the Blowing Rock Fire Station. Bids will open from 8:30 am-7:30pm. Several individuals and businesses have already stepped up to donate items and packages for the auction.
If you would like to contribute directly to the scholarship fund, you can. Contact Highland Union Bank, 1013 NC Hwy 105, Boone NC 28607. The bank told WBTV individuals, businesses and civic groups have all stepped up to help.
