CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A busy section of Park Road has been closed for nearly 16 hours after a teenager smashed his SUV into a power pole Wednesday afternoon.

The incident was reported around 2:50 p.m. on the 4900 block of Park Road, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Crews from Duke Energy and Williams Electric Company have been working to remove the shattered power pole from the road and transfer all the power lines to a newly installed pole.

Power to several residential apartment buildings in the area had to be shut off for nearly 12 hours. The power was back on at 5:30 a.m.

Police have been detouring traffic into Seneca Place back over to South Boulevard and onto Selwyn Avenue to provide access to Woodlawn Road.

Police and power crews had the road reopened by 10 a.m.

The teenager was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Now word yet on any charges.
