"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
We recently completed an editorial series challenging parents to take a more active role in their children's lives.
We discussed the importance of being a parent…and not a friend.
How children really spell love T-I-M-E…and how parenting is really our most important job.
As we sort of expected, no one wrote in to that our stance was wrong.
In fact, a number of viewers took time to say they agreed with us.
For instance Ms. Jo Ann Duprey of Mt. Mourne wrote….
"I am so tired of watching kids who are totally out of control, at home and in public."
"Run this two or three times a year."
Ms. Regina Brinneman recalls an earlier, simpler time for families….
"I am not sure how the ‘family' has been left out of so many things. I realize everyone is busy, or think they are, and the smallest thing like sitting down to dinner together does not happen."
And Mr. Bill Batchelor of Blowing Rock reminds everyone that schools are not responsible for shaping the most important aspects of a child's life. That is up to parents.
"We need parents who have strong educational values, discipline their kids, and teach their kids."
We appreciate everyone who took time to write.
If you did not see all of our parenting series, you can always find our editorials on our website.
