Home invasion suspect wearing law enforcement uniform

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are looking for three men who they say forced their way into a family home in West Charlotte around Midnight Tuesday on Avalon Avenue.

One of the men was wearing an official looking law enforcement uniform complete with duty belt, police say.

Stephanie Vasquez wasn't home at the time, but her mother, 6-year-old brother and two other adults were inside when they were robbed by three men.

One of the men was dressed as a police officer.

"My mom's boyfriend just asked to see his badge and they didn't see a patrol car and when they did that they just pulled out mace and maced him," said Vasquez.

Police say the men pepper-sprayed the victims and pistol whipped one of the men.  According to a CMPD official on the scene, the men forced the adults outside the home, then ransacked the house and stole cash and other items.

The 6-year-old boy hid inside the home. Police say he wasn't hurt. The family just moved into the house last weekend.

Police don't have a good description of the men. If you have any information in this case, call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.
